South Carolina sophomore guard MiLaysia Fulwiley and Curry Brand strategically debuted her first player-exclusive shoe on social media and during a live game. Curry Brand announced the Curry 12 PE “FamLay” rollout on social media by tagging Fulwiley in a post with product images, detail shots, and a caption that included the inspiration behind the sneaker’s design.
The Curry 12 PE “FamLay” is rich with personal inspiration drawn from Fulwiley’s family, her dogs, and her hometown of Columbia, South Carolina. The sneaker features her favorite colors—red and gold—complemented by black accents.
Design elements include the outline of South Carolina with the Columbia area code “803” printed on the tongue and sock liner. Symbols on the black TPU sidewall—ace of spade and a star—represent her dogs, Ace and Star. Her family’s name “Mixon” appears on the right heel tab, and the initials “JPZ” represent family members on the left tab.
Fulwiley added impact to the reveal by stepping on the court and rocking the Curry 12 PE “FamLay” during a matchup against the Texas Longhorns. She led South Carolina in scoring with 13 points and added three steals, three assists, and 44 percent shooting, further stamping the rollout of her shoe.
Curry Brand announced Fulwiley’s multi-year NIL (name, image, and likeness) partnership in March 2024, making Fulwiley the first collegiate athlete to sign with the brand. The unveiling of the “FamLay” not only highlights her growing influence in the sport, but also reflects Curry Brand’s commitment to supporting emerging talent in women’s basketball.
